Week in Review: August 20-24
This week we continued our work with place value and discussed how it relates to converting within the metric system. Ask your kids about King Henry and his chocolate milk! In social studies, we completed a mini unit on economics to lay a foundation for some of our work with the American Revolution later this fall.

Looking Ahead
Keep an eye out for traveling folders coming home this week. Take a look at your child's spelling and vocabulary quiz and economics quiz, sign the traveling folder, and have your child return the folder to school by Friday. Feel free to keep the quizzes for your own records.

In academics, we'll be working on expanded form and comparing decimal numbers. We'll also be starting a small writing project and beginning to connect our reading book, Night of the Spadefoot Toads, with some science topics.

Week in Review: August 13-17
This week we started our first book of the year, Night of the Spadefoot Toad, began our first math unit on place value, and completed some beginning of the year testing. As a class, our behavior continued to shine! Students worked hard and had opportunities to work with many different teammates.

Looking Ahead
Next week, we'll continue studying place value and learn how it relates to the metric system. We will also begin a brief unit on personal finances and continue our literature study on Night of the Spadefoot Toad. Spelling homework starts on Monday!

Students of the Week

Shoutout to our students of the week, Pablo and Linnae! Both students were nominated for going out of their way to help others. Linnae took time out of her day to help a student catch up on some missed work, while Pablo helped out a classmate whose chair almost tipped over spilling all of her belongings. Way to look out for others, Linnae and Pablo!

Week in Review: August 6-10
Wow! What a great couple of days back at school! Students in our class discussed different ways to be respectful to their teachers and classmates, in our cafeteria, and to our classroom and supplies. We also had a chance to get started on some place value work.

While we won't have homework for several weeks, students should be reading regularly at home. Next week, feel free to ask them how to multiply and divide whole numbers and decimals by different versions of 10 as well as the difference between place value and value.

Students of the Week:
